But Coastal Décor is so Tacky!

But Coastal Décor is so Tacky!

Driftwood mirrors, seashells and rope. That is the staple of generic coastal décor. But coastal décor is so much more!

When I moved to the coast I wanted my new home to reflect my new life by the sea. So I set to work on trying to find pieces and accents to add to my home. What I found was mass produced, generic paintings, lamps with glued on rope, and flimsy driftwood mirrors. Hmmm. Not quite the look I was going for.

I promote creating a haven in your own home. This isn't just marketing spiel- this has come from my own experiences, and my research into wellbeing. For those of you that have not seen my Instagram page, I have suffered severe trauma. This lead to me going downhill and finding myself in a very dark place. Once I hit rock bottom I realised that the only way is up. So I went back to school and studied- I delved into psychology and found out about the impact of our own surroundings on our psyche. It made sense. In London I was surrounded by busy, chaotic and often aggressive vibes. I yearned for calm, fun and mostly freedom. I found that by the sea. So I packed up and headed to the coast and have never looked back.

When it came to creating a stylish coastal sanctuary- I was stuck. I wanted style but not generic mass-produced tack. I wanted artwork that was authentic, soulful and unique. This was hard to come by. So I began to paint again. And from there my work as a full-time artist began.

Six years later I still paint the ocean- because it saved me. And it made me realise that nature has a healing power all by itself. However, I realise that not everyone can up-sticks and head to the coast. Life simply isn't that easy! But you can bring the coast to you- and all of the feelings and emotions that it brings.

Adding unique artwork, with the colours that you love, will not only transform a space, it can exude feelings of freedom, inspiration and calm. That is why I paint. I want to share these feelings in the only way I know how.

I have also created prints of some of my most popular work. It can be a big commitment if you haven't bought original artwork before, so please take a look at my prints on canvas here.
