Some of the most beautiful moments by the sea happen just before something changes.
The air feels different. The light softens. The water holds its breath for an instant before movement begins again. I have always been drawn to these quiet transitions because they remind me that life is constantly unfolding around us, even when everything appears still.
This painting is my attempt to preserve that moment of quiet anticipation—a reminder that beauty often exists in the pauses as much as in the movement itself.
Created slowly in my Dorset studio using multiple layers of oil paint, its textured surface catches the changing light throughout the day, allowing subtle shifts in colour and atmosphere to emerge over time.
My hope is that Before the Unfolding becomes a place of quiet return within the home—a painting that invites stillness, reflection and the gentle reminder that some of life's most meaningful moments exist in the space just before everything changes.
