Breath

There are moments beneath the surface when a single breath becomes the only measure of time.

Bubbles rise slowly through the blue, carrying air towards the shifting boundary above. The world beyond the water feels distant, while everything below becomes quieter, slower and more intimate.

Breath was inspired by that suspended moment.

Rather than capturing a particular place, the painting explores the fragile space between holding on and letting go. Built gradually through layers of oil paint, deep blues soften towards the surface as small bubbles drift upward, creating a sense of movement within the stillness.

It invites the viewer to pause, breathe more deeply and remember the quiet power of simply being present.

Living With Breath

Intimate, contemplative and quietly immersive, Breath brings a sense of depth and stillness into the home. Its rich blues create a calming presence, while the rising bubbles and gently shifting surface introduce subtle movement and light.

As natural daylight changes, the water appears to deepen and soften, revealing delicate variations within the blue. Its smaller scale makes it particularly suited to a quiet corner, a bedroom, a reading space or a carefully curated gallery wall.

My hope is that Breath becomes a moment of calm within the home—a painting that slows the pace of a room and offers a gentle reminder to pause whenever life begins to feel too full.

From the Artist

I have always been fascinated by the moment when breath leaves the body beneath the water. The bubbles rise instinctively towards the surface, while everything around them remains suspended in blue.

There is something both vulnerable and freeing in that image.

Breath is my attempt to capture the space between tension and release—the moment we stop holding everything inside and allow ourselves to let go. For me, it is a reminder that even the smallest act of release can carry us gently back towards the light.
