Nothing in the ocean happens alone.
Each movement begins somewhere beyond what we can see.
A wave rises from the energy before it, crossing currents and broken water before folding into something new. Nothing remains still or separate. The ocean is continually gathering, releasing and remaking itself.
Undone was inspired by this unending rhythm.
Rather than isolating a single wave, the painting follows the movement of the sea as a whole. Through layered oil paint, luminous turquoise colour and expressive texture, waves rise, collide and dissolve into one another—each surrender becoming the beginning of something new.
It is a painting about release, renewal and the unexpected beauty of coming undone.
Living With Undone
Filled with luminous colour and fluid movement, Undone brings the invigorating presence of the ocean into the home. Its layered waves create a compelling sense of depth, drawing the eye through shifting turquoise water, translucent crests and softly dissolving foam.
As natural daylight moves across the painted surface, subtle variations in colour and texture emerge, allowing the work to feel continually alive while retaining the calm, elegant quality at the heart of the collection.
It is a striking focal point for a contemporary interior—a painting that brings energy to a room without overwhelming it.
From the Artist
I have always been fascinated by the way the ocean can appear to lose itself completely and yet remain whole.
Every wave rises only to collapse. Its shape disappears, its energy passes into the surrounding water and almost immediately the sea begins forming something new. What looks like an ending is simply part of a much larger movement.
When I painted Undone, I wanted to capture that moment of surrender—the instant when form gives way, control is released and change becomes inevitable.
For me, it is a painting about trusting what comes next. It reminds me that becoming undone does not always mean being broken; sometimes it is how we make space to begin again.
My hope is that Undone becomes a reminder that there can be freedom in letting go—and that even in moments of uncertainty, something new is already beginning to take shape.
