WELCOME

Magda Malak is a contemporary seascape artist based in South West England, whose work is
rooted in Atmospheric Realism, meticulously translating
the light and vast, restorative calm of the ocean onto canvas.

Her tonal oil paintings offer collectors a window to a
profound, quiet mood, symbolizing her own journey to solace and resilience.

'My paintings are made to be lived with — collected by those drawn to contemporary ocean art that offers calm, continuity, and presence.'

ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint the sea as a place of steadiness rather than spectacle.

Living on the Dorset coast, I work with repeated observation of water, light, and horizon — creating seascape and ocean paintings that explore the sea as a sustained psychological space rather than a view or destination. It is a constant presence. A place to return to. A rhythm that holds what cannot always be articulated.

My work is built through repetition and restraint. I use a limited palette and layered, intuitive mark-making, allowing each painting to resolve slowly. Movement is suggested rather than described; detail gives way to atmosphere. The paintings are not about capturing a moment, but about staying with one long enough for something quieter to surface.

The sea offers me a sense of freedom and return — to nature, to rhythm, to something enduring. Its expanse, consistency, and quiet power bring a deep sense of calm. Painting the ocean allows me to slow perception and stay with what unfolds over time; that sustained attention shapes the restraint and emotional containment within the work. I am interested in painting as regulation rather than expression — images that offer steadiness, breath, and continuity in a world that rarely allows for stillness.

Each painting holds a threshold: between water and sky, motion and rest, memory and the present moment. They are made to be lived with — not to demand, but to remain.
