Intimate Depths

There are places beneath the surface where the world becomes quieter.

Intimate Depths was inspired by those moments of gentle immersion.

Rather than capturing a specific underwater landscape, the painting explores the emotional experience of being surrounded by silence, light and endless blue. Through layered oil paint and subtle shifts of colour, it invites the viewer into a place where stillness and movement exist together, creating an atmosphere that feels both deeply personal and universally familiar.

Some of the most peaceful moments I have experienced have been beneath the surface of the sea.

There is a remarkable stillness underwater where sound fades, light becomes softer and every movement feels suspended in time. It is a place that invites complete presence—a rare opportunity to simply exist without distraction.

When I painted Intimate Depths, I wanted to capture that feeling rather than a place. The quiet intimacy of being surrounded by water, where the boundaries between thought, memory and light seem to dissolve, leaving only a sense of calm and connection.

It is a reminder that depth is not something to fear, but something to embrace.

My hope is that Intimate Depths becomes a quiet sanctuary within the home—a painting that invites contemplation, rewards slow observation and gently reminds us that some of life's deepest beauty is found beneath the surface, waiting patiently to be discovered.
